An Invitation to

North Shore Rhythms and Blues

Who? Midwest New Musicals and Light Opera Works invite you to North Shore Rhythms and Blues

What? North Shore Ryhthms and Blues, the 2012 Mini-Musicals Project, is the culminating performance for authors in the Midwest New Musicals musical theater writers workshop. The performance will feature:

  • a concert medley of songs by workshop writers and
  • Paddycakes by Patrice Peltier and Johanna Drew
  • The Blood of San Gennaro by Graziano Marcheschi, John David Nelson and Jessica A. Hunt
  • Rhythm and Wine by Barbara Georgans and Bruce L. Warden 

Participating authors create short musicals for a pre-selected ensemble and production team. In addition to the theme of “North Shore Rhythms and Blues,” each piece will include a lyric image, “a loaf of stale bread”, a line of dialogue, “there’s a panda in the driveway,” and a musical motive, C up to F# up to G down to E.

The stage director is Tina Salmone, the music director is Jessica A. Hunt, and the performers are Maria Barwegen, John Gurdian, Ashlee Hardgrave, Brandon Moorhead, and Melissa Rosenberg. 

Midwest New Musicals is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, The ASCAP Foundation and The Dramatist Guild Fund and individual donors. Midwest New Musicals is an ongoing forum where lyricists, composers and book writers create and discuss their work. Midwest New Musicals is a resident arm of Light Opera Works, Chicago’s specialists in operetta and musical theater.
