A Conversation on the State of New Musical Theatre in Chicago
Monday, November 26 at 7 PM
Hosted by Chicago Dramatists
1105 W. Chicago Avenue

DG Chicago Regional Rep Douglas Post will be holding the second meeting of the 2012/13 season of the DG membership for Chicago and the surrounding areas on Monday, November 26 at 7 PM at Chicago Dramatists, 1105 W. Chicago Avenue.

This meeting is open to playwrights, composers, lyricists and librettists who are members of the Guild or are considering becoming members of the Guild. We welcome dramatists from the state of Illinois and from our neighbor states including Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan.

Chicago is a great city for American playwrights, but it is, arguably, not as great a town for American composers, lyricists and librettists. Why is that? What, historically, has kept us from being a better center for these creative artists? What is currently being done to change this situation? What can be done in the future? What should be done?

These are some of the questions we will be putting to our panelists, who include: Cheryl Coons (Director of Musical Theatre Development, Chicago Dramatists) Diana Lawrence (Composer/Music Director) Michael Mahler (Composer/Lyricist) Elizabeth Margolius (Co-Founder/Artistic Director of DirectorsLabChicago) John Sparks (Founding Director, Midwest New Musicals at Light Opera Works)

Please come if you can. And please feel free to bring someone who you think could benefit from being a member of the Guild. Reservations are not required.
