The Midwest New Musicals program meets monthly in two, 3.5-hour sessions on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 1:30 pm.
The Midwest New Musicals Writers' Workshop

If you are a composer, lyricist or playwright you are invited to learn musical theater structure with Midwest New Musicals, in association with Light Opera Works.

What it is
 An intensive program that assists writers through the process of creating a new musical. Writers explore the use of music, lyrics and dialogue through hands-on assignments that introduce them to musical theater forms and collaborative techniques.

Midwest New Musicals - 2013-14 Season

Workshop I: Fundamentals of Musical Theatre Writing
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. $695 x 2 or $1,200 all at once
Acceptance By Application Only

Workshop II: Writing A Full Length Musical
Saturday, 2:30 – 6:30 $500
Acceptance By Completion of Core Curriculum or Invitation of Instructor

Writer’s Ensemble: Ongoing Workshop for Professional Writers*
Sunday 2:30 – 6:30 p.m.   $250
By Invitation Only, restricted to members who have completed the Full Length Curriculum satisfactorily, including a complete draft (book, music and lyrics) of a full-length show (at least 75 minutes long) within one curriculum year (September through June) or other artistic consideration of the Director. Invitations will be extended in August, 2013.

CRAFT TUTORIALS: Fee: $375 per tutorial
(Applicants to the Core Curriculum may be asked to enroll in at least one tutorial prior to being accepted into the Core Curriculum)

Musical Theatre Bookwriting: 9 Tuesdays, Fall Session and Winter/Spring Session 7 – 9:00 p.m.
Learn the ABC’s of musical theatre structure and create an outline for a full-length work.
